- Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
- before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
- using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
- differ on details -- some request registration while others
- require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
- registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
- using the software to an updated program with printed manual.
-
- Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
- and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
- exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
- programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
- of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
- and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
- distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
- and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
- specific group. For example, some authors require written
- permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
- Shareware.
-
- Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
- should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
- whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
- fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
- And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
- has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
- product, you don't pay for it.

- Users of LABELS-PLUS must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
-
- LABELS-PLUS is supplied as is. This author disclaims all
- warranties, expressed or implied, including without limitation,
- the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
- The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
- quential, which may result from the use of LABELS-PLUS.
-
- LABELS-PLUS is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
- to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your
- friends, but do not give it away altered or as part of another
- system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to provide
- micro computer users with quality software without high prices,
- and yet to provide incentives for programmers to continue to
- develop new products. If you find LABELS-PLUS useful and that
- you are continuing to use LABELS-PLUS after a trial period of
- 30 days, you must make a registration payment of $ 50.00 to
- GRAFTech. The $ 50.00 registration fee will license one copy
- for use on any one computer at any one time. You must treat
- this software just like a book. An example is that this
- software may be used by any number of people and may be freely
- moved from one computer to another, so long as there is no
- possibility of it being used at one location while it's being
- used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different
- persons at the same time.
-
- Commercial users of LABELS-PLUS must register and pay for their
- copies of LABELS-PLUS within 30 days of first use or their
- license is withdrawn. Site-License agreements may be made by
- contacting GRAFTech.
-
- Anyone distributing LABELS-PLUS for any kind of remuneration must
- first contact GRAFTech at Post Office Box 851228, Westland MI
- USA 48185-6328, for authorization. This authorization will be
- automatically granted to distributors recognized by the (ASP) as
- adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
- distributors may begin offering LABELS-PLUS immediately (However
- GRAFTech must still be advised so that the distributor can be
- kept up-to-date with the latest version of LABELS-PLUS.).
-
- You are encouraged to pass a copy of LABELS-PLUS along to your
- friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their
- copy if they find that they can use it. All registered users
- will receive a copy of the latest version of LABELS-PLUS.

- LABELS-PLUS Introduction
-
- In 1988, as an economical alternative to expensive
- hardware dependent bar code solutions, GRAFTech
- developed and released BARCODES-PLUS. This product
- quickly gained recognition with end users, developers
- and consulting firms for providing high-quality, low
- cost, bar codes directly from within their existing
- application software.
-
- While the success of BARCODES-PLUS among end users
- and developers in the United States, Canada, Europe
- and Australia, proves both the technology and the need
- for such alternatives, their remained many potential
- bar code users which could not afford to integrate the
- product into their existing software or to develope
- user front ends to print the simplest labels.
-
- Therefore, in 1990, GRAFTech developed LABELS-PLUS.
-
- LABELS-PLUS combines the proven bar code technology
- of BARCODES-PLUS, a simplified user interface and the
- four most requested bar code label formats, to give you
- the power you need to implement a complete bar coded
- management control system.
-
- By eliminating your dependence on specific printer technology,
- LABELS-PLUS provides for faster implementation, significantly
- reduced start-up costs, a larger installation base and greater
- portability. LABELS-PLUS brings you the power of bar codes
- for a fraction of the cost.
-
- When you use LABELS-PLUS you will have the ability to:
-
- - use the graphic printers you probably already own
- - change printers without expensive software changes
- - add new printers without expensive software changes
- - and, use virtually every printer bit image printer on the
- market today!
-
- No other software or hardware tool comes close to the power,
- versatility or flexibility of LABELS-PLUS.
-
- LABELS-PLUS utilizes the bar code standards established by:
-
- - Uniform Codes Council (UCC)
- - Automatic Identification Manufacturers (AIM)
- - United States Department of Defense (DOD)
- - American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
- - Intermec Corporation
- - International Article Numbering Association (EAN/IAN)
- - Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG)
- - National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED)

- Printer Problems Check List
-
- If printed bar codes appear to have waves or are not as
- straight as you would like, check to see if your printer
- is in bidirectional mode. If so, change the printer
- to unidirectional mode prior to starting LABELS-PLUS.
- Unidirectional printing provides better alignment of
- vertical lines, while bidirectional printing is
- faster.
-
- For Epson printers, if the DIP switches are set to
- unidirectional mode, bidirectional mode can not be
- selected via software commands. If the DIP switches
- are set to bidirectional mode, unidirectional mode can
- be selected via software commands.
-
- For Epson printers, the following BASIC statements
- will instruct the printer to set directional modes:
-
- Unidirectional Mode
-
- PRINT CHR$(27); CHR$(85); CHR$(49);
-
- Bidirectional Mode
-
- PRINT CHR$(27); CHR$(85); CHR$(48);
-
- For all other printers, check the printer manual
- for the proper software instructions to change
- directional print mode.
-
- Epson 24 Pin Printer Note: LABELS-PLUS does
- print using all 24 pins when an Epson 24 Pin
- printer is selected. Although this provides
- for better quality graphics, it is also
- slower due to the increased quantity of
- graphic data which must be sent to the printer.
- If you would prefer faster printing select
- one of the 9 pin printers.
-
- Selecting quad density graphics while an Epson
- 24 Pin Printer is selected will actually produce
- 180 x 180 dpi graphics instead of 240 x 180 dpi.
-
- Other problems . . .
-
- Check the computer power cable connections.
-
- Check the computer to printer cable connections.
-
- Check your printer manual to be sure that your printer
- has been properly set up.
-
- If you still can not determine the exact problem, please
- contact the local computer vendor which provided the
- computer and printer you are using, they will be better
- prepared to answer any questions you may have.
